Suhail Azad

Suhail Azad (born 1966) is a contemporary Urdu poet, writer, and literary mentor known for his distinctive style, imaginative expression, and contribution to modern Urdu poetry. Born in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, he pursued higher education at Bareilly College and Kumaun University and served in the Uttarakhand Police Department for nearly three decades before taking voluntary retirement in 2021. Suhail Azad is recognised for his unique poetic style and refined use of imagery, metaphors, symbols, allusions, and imaginative language. His poetry explores love, separation, loneliness, memory, human relationships, nature, and the complexities of life. His ghazals are particularly noted for their rich imagery and layered expression, while his nazms and haiku demonstrate his versatility as a poet. He has published four poetry collections in Urdu and Devanagari. His notable works include Yaadon Ke Kuch Khaali Packet and Ghazal Lekhan – Ek Parichey. Alongside writing poetry, he has played an important role in guiding emerging poets, helping new writers understand the craft, techniques, and finer aspects of Urdu poetry. His work therefore extends beyond his own writing to the nurturing of a new generation of Urdu poets.
