Ali Akbar Natiq is a prominent Pakistani Urdu poet, novelist and short-story writer known for his powerful portrayal of rural life, social inequality and the lives of ordinary people. Born in Okara, he began working as a mason at a young age while continuing his education privately. His early experiences of working among farmers and labourers deeply influenced his literary perspective. He began his literary career with poetry and later established himself as an acclaimed fiction writer. His short-story collection Qaim Deen and novels such as Naulakhi Kothi have received critical recognition. His work has been translated into English, Hindi and German, and his story “A Mason’s Hand” was featured in Granta in 2011.
