Swati Sani

Swati Sani is an Indian Urdu poet, author, translator, and literature enthusiast based in Nagpur. Born in 1968, she developed an interest in Urdu poetry at a young age and later pursued an M.A. in Urdu Literature from Nagpur University. She is also an alumna of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. After working in advertising for several years and successfully running a software company for over two decades, Swati Sani turned to her long-standing passion for Urdu literature. Since then, she has dedicated herself to writing, translating, and making Urdu poetry accessible to readers who may find the language and its classical nuances difficult to understand. Her notable books include The Eloquence of Ghalib, The Fervor of Mir, Verses in Bloom, and The Magic of Sahir. Her books present selected Urdu couplets in Urdu, Devanagari, and Roman scripts alongside English translations, allowing a wider audience to appreciate the beauty, wit, emotion, and philosophical depth of Urdu poetry. Swati Sani also runs the A Sher A Day initiative, through which she shares Urdu couplets along with their English translations. Through her poetry, translations, lectures, and literary engagement, she works towards creating a bridge between Urdu literature and readers who may not be familiar with the language.
