Rahman Abbas

Rahman Abbas (born 1972) is an acclaimed Indian Urdu novelist, fiction writer, and literary critic known for his bold and contemporary approach to Urdu fiction. Based in Mumbai, he has made a significant contribution to modern Urdu literature through novels that explore love, desire, identity, religion, politics, social change, and the complexities of human relationships. Rahman Abbas is the author of ten books, including six novels. His notable works include Nakhlistan Ki Talash, Ek Mamnua Mohabbat Ki Kahani, Khuda Ke Saaye Mein Aankh Micholi, Rohzin, Zindeeq, and Ek Tarah Ka Pagalpan. His fiction often examines the tensions between individual freedom and social conventions, bringing together psychological depth, social commentary, and literary experimentation. His fourth novel, Rohzin, received the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu in 2018, India's premier literary recognition for the work. The novel has since been translated into German, English, and Hindi. Its German translation received the prestigious LitProm Grant, and the English translation was longlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature.
