Biography

Patras Bukhari (1898–1958), whose real name was Syed Ahmad Shah Bukhari, was a celebrated Urdu humorist, essayist, educator, broadcaster, and diplomat. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern Urdu prose and humour. His writing is distinguished by its sharp wit, intelligent satire, elegant language, and keen observation of everyday human behaviour. His landmark collection Patras Ke Mazameen established a new standard for Urdu humorous prose. Through seemingly ordinary experiences, Bukhari explored human nature, social behaviour, education, relationships, and the absurdities of everyday life with remarkable warmth and sophistication. His humour was never merely comic; it was often a subtle reflection on society and human nature.
