Nomaan Shauq

Noman Shauq is a prominent contemporary Urdu poet, journalist, and broadcaster known for his distinctive contribution to modern Urdu poetry and ghazal. Born in Ara, Bihar, in 1965, he is now based in Noida and has been associated with All India Radio. His poetry combines emotional depth with contemporary sensibilities, exploring themes of love, separation, loneliness, society, memory, and the complexities of modern life. Primarily known as a ghazal poet, Noman Shauq has also written nazms and has published poetry collections in Urdu and Hindi. His notable works include Freezer Mein Rakhi Shaam, Jalta Shikara Dhoondne Mein, Apne Kahe Kinare, and Raat Aur Vishkanya. His poetry has been translated into several languages, helping introduce his work to a wider readership. Alongside his literary work, Noman Shauq has made a significant contribution to broadcasting and literary journalism. He has worked with All India Radio and has regularly contributed to literary magazines and platforms. He has also been associated with Rekhta and has participated in major mushairas and literary gatherings, bringing contemporary Urdu poetry to diverse audiences. Rekhta describes him as a prominent post-modern Urdu poet associated with All India Radio. His literary contribution has been recognised with the Shaad Azimabadi Award, which he received in recognition of his services to Urdu literature. The award was presented in 2016 by the Indian Association of Bihar and Jharkhand during an International Mushaira in Qatar. Through his poetry, broadcasting, and engagement with literary culture, Noman Shauq continues to contribute to the contemporary Urdu literary tradition, particularly the modern ghazal.
