Biography

Ghazanfar is a prominent contemporary Indian Urdu poet, novelist, fiction writer and literary critic known for his innovative contribution to Urdu literature. Born in Gopalganj, Bihar, in 1953, he completed his M.A. in Urdu from Aligarh Muslim University and earned a Ph.D. on the critical theories of Shibli Nomani. He held several important academic and literary positions, including Professor and Director at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. His literary work spans Urdu novels, short stories, poetry, literary criticism, drama, sketches and language pedagogy. His acclaimed novel Pani explores the struggle over water and its impact on human life, while works such as Kenchli, Manjhi, Vish Manthan and Fusoon demonstrate his distinctive approach to Urdu fiction.
