Biography

Farhat Ehsas is a prominent contemporary Indian Urdu poet, writer, literary critic, editor and scriptwriter. Born in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, in 1950, he studied at Aligarh Muslim University and began his professional career in Urdu journalism. He worked with the Urdu weekly Hujum and later joined Qaumi Aawaz, Delhi, where he edited its Sunday edition for several years. He has also contributed commentaries on current affairs to All India Radio and the Urdu Service of the BBC. His literary work draws on the classical Persian and Urdu poetic tradition while addressing contemporary human experiences, social change and the complexities of modern life. He has written poetry, criticism, essays and scripts for television and radio and has been associated with Rekhta.
