Biography

Bedam Shah Warsi was a celebrated Urdu Sufi poet and Naat writer known for his devotional poetry and spiritually rich ghazals. Born in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, in 1876, his real name was Ghulam Hussain and he wrote under the pen name Bedam. He developed his poetic skills in Agra and received spiritual and literary guidance from prominent Sufi figures, including Shah Danapuri and Hazrat Waris Ali Shah. His poetry reflects devotion, mysticism, love and spiritual longing. Bedam Shah Warsi became particularly renowned for his Naat poetry and devotional ghazals. He was also honoured with the titles “Siraj-e-Shu'ara” and “Lisan-e-Tariqat.” His poetry remains an important part of the Urdu Sufi literary tradition.
