Biography

Anwar Shuoor is a prominent Pakistani Urdu poet known for his simple, conversational and emotionally expressive style of poetry. Born in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, in 1943, his family migrated to Pakistan after Partition. He began his professional career with the Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu, Pakistan and later worked with publications including Akhbar-e-Jahan and Sabrang Digest. His poetry has appeared in literary magazines such as Funoon, while his qitaat on contemporary issues have been published regularly in the Pakistani newspaper Jung. Anwar Shuoor is particularly admired for his accessible Urdu, subtle emotions and mastery of the ghazal.
