Anis Ashfaq

Anis Ashfaq is a renowned Urdu poet, novelist, fiction writer and literary critic from Lucknow. He is particularly known for his contribution to Urdu literary criticism and for his novels rooted in the cultural and social life of Lucknow. He taught Urdu at the University of Lucknow for nearly three decades and also served as the Head of its Urdu Department. Anis Ashfaq has authored more than twenty-four books across poetry, fiction, literary criticism, translation, biography and travel writing. His novels Dukhiyare, Khwaab-Saraab, Pari-Naaz Aur Parinde and Haich have received critical appreciation. His novel Khwaab-Saraab won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2022.
