Biography

Arzoo Lakhnavi was a prominent Urdu poet and lyricist, known by the honorary title “Allamah.” He wrote in almost every major genre of Urdu poetry, including ghazal, marsiya, qasida, masnavi, rubai and naat. He also wrote lyrics, radio plays and scripts for films. He began composing poetry at a young age and later became a disciple of the renowned poet Jalal Lakhnavi. In 1942, he moved to Bombay and became associated with the Hindi film industry. After Partition, he migrated to Pakistan and joined Radio Pakistan in Karachi. His poetry is particularly known for its graceful language and his mastery of the ghazal.
